We have so many feelings going on when a relationship breaks, guilt, pain, anger, questioning and heartache.

This poem is for a dear friend who had the misfortune to go through a break in a beautiful relationship.

This is but only one.

Why My Darling

“Why did you leave me, what have I done?”
“I’m living in this dark place where there is no sun.”
“The day’s ahead look dreary, certainly no place to be,”
“Why my darling, why have you done this to me?”

Those were my feelings; the answers I needed desperately to know.
That question is no longer vital to me, for I’ve finally started to grow.
You left me there with opened wounds while you walked out the door.
Nothing in this world has ever damaged me, or tried to hurt me more.

You said our love was going to last forever, a time without an end.
Those words became so hollow, when you slept with my friend.
Those lovely treasured words you spoke, while making love to me.
Are just as meaningless as your love and as all the used to be’s.

I don’t want your pity, for I’m certainly not destroyed or broken.
Just like your love wasn’t lasting love, it is simply now a token.
So how can I possibly mourn for a lost love that never did exist.
No, don’t pity me for in awhile our love will be like a fleeting kiss.

At this moment, I must thank you for opening my closed eyes.
Being utterly blindsided by your affair surely took me by surprise.
You showed me to be more careful in letting people get too near.
You taught me much about distrust; you taught me pain and fear.

It may take a little while for my love, my trust and faith to restore.
But don’t ever think it’s destroyed, for inside of me there is so much more.
Someday you will realize, you not only lost a wife but lost a best friend too.
That’s the day you’ll ask the same questions of me, that I’ve ask of you.

Bonnie, you try so hard to please your friends with writes about them and this here is a great one for your friend. I understand how she is feelng right now having gone through a divorce in the past life. It wasn't fun and I made a new life with someone else eventually. Men are such wicked people sometimes, I found that out.

A break-up is like a death, it must be mourned. With each day it will get a little better and become just another mile traveled down Life's Road! LOVE! SC

Well-written, Bonnie dear! You have expressed the emotions so vividly that some readers are thinking it is yourself you are speaking of. I'd say that's a sign of good writing!
I do feel for your friend...it would be so hard to live through a betrayal such as this. You must be a comfort to her(assuming it is a female friend) with your understanding and caring.

Love,
Connie
