OH, how I miss the man in the picture, who was my only sibling. He was murdered, November 8, 1990 and that day will soon be here. The case is still unsolved and his short story is at the site below. Please Pray for me during this time for sometimes I stay here awhile.

Another Treasure That Died!

On the news we saw a body found being carried up a shallow hill,
It was right before Thanksgiving, which was so sad and surreal.
My heart went out to the unknown family & then I suddenly went cold.
For there was a call from the police and now the family had been told.

It’s getting close to the time of year when my brother’s body was found.
A child found him under a dead old tree; he was just lying on the ground.
Sometimes very seldom a day may go by that I don’t remember that call.
But it’s never at this time of year, for this is the most painful time of all.

For it was right before Thanksgiving that police came to my door.
Telling me the most horrible things that I’ve never heard before.
Your brother’s body was just found and we need him identified.
My devastated husband said he’d go and I stayed home and cried.

I cried for his lovely and adoring children, who were his entire world.
I cried for the pain of his elderly father, when his pain would be unfurled
I cried for his niece and nephews who absolutely adored this man.
And I cried for the directions our lives would take, sinking in quicksand.

Those were the last tears I shed then, for I realized I had to be strong.
To show this relentless emotion would only be hurtful and wrong.
I must not let them see me cry for they need my shoulder now.
They’ll be plenty of time to shed those tears that right now I won’t allow.

Somehow we all got through the service and his children moved in with me.
“God give me the strength to guide them and give them some normality.”
All our lives changed that day and never were quite the same again.
All because an unknown man felt he had the right to bring Gary’s life to an end.

There are still times in life when I’m totally alone & I release those tears inside.
For all those memories we could now share is the other treasure that died.
As the years go by, I miss my brother more and all the things we could share.
I know he’s with my Savior now and someday soon, we’ll reminisce there.

Although it was a terrible tragedy for anyone to have to live through, you were blessed by the presence of your own family to lend you support. Get distracted somehow that dark day!

Lossing someone to murder is terrifying, I remember in 1997, when we found that two of our close family friends Neal and Brendan Abernathy were murdered, everything seemed surreal, and still the killers go uncaught, I have left it as kind of my mission, to see why someone felt the need to take the life of a twelve year old boy, and the father who would have given you the shirt of his back, when I first began writing, it was Neal who gave me my first computer, a laptop, he was just that kind of person, I will be praying that the monster that did this to your brother is caught

You know how much I understand this pain my dear friend...and I know that "staying here awhile" phase that lasts sometimes too long... However...this writing was beautiful in it's horrible sadness....and all I can say is I am so sorry that you are so broken inside with this unsolved case... a person goes thru so much just dealing with the moving forward...but then to never know "why" or "who".... it never places closure... altho...We are assured that he is with his Heavenly Father...so that peace makes it bearable I know... :-)) You have so many gifts and you share them with us on AD, but I did not know that you raised your brothers children... and... it is people like you in this world who are the Pillars....The Rocks.... yet...sometimes even those strong objects begin to crumble around the edges...where people don't always see... You are courage in a lovely woman's presence, and I am honored to be your friend... lindalaw

The pain and aguish of losing a loved one be it a father, mother, son daughter sister or brother is always traumatic and painful but when that life is taken unecessarily it is devastating. I am glad you found the strength to go on and be the rock that so many needed you to be...but it is also okay to cry....

Fatality... A hard fact to understand.

Those that are loved will never die. Those that were loved live.

May the power of love show us the magic of life.

I salute You, Poet.

You can count on my prayers, and also that I will ask the Big Boss to whisper to the cops the right direction to find and punish that individual.
Hope you and your family have a little more peace after eight years, I know that it doens' get easy (lost two brothers)but one doesn't need to bear it alone, sharing the pain unite us more tight.
God bless, will be thinking and praying for you the 8th.
