No Need for Mistletoe!

When you've not a gift to give, dig deeper, and not in your pockets, try your heart and you'd be surprised what your heart can come up with.

No Need for Mistletoe!

One year, kind of like this one, money was really tight.

I worried that Christmas wouldn’t come, I worried all night.

Then I had a thought about Christmas & it isn’t the gifts you buy.

It’s about giving every part of you, like the day our Savior died.

So I awoke that morning determined to find ways to show love.

I prayed and asked for the answers to my Savior up above.

I searched & found a little branch similar to a small tree in fall.

It didn’t have one single leaf on it; in fact, it had no life at all.

I placed it in a tiny pot & filled it with sod and bits of stone.

I tied a ribbon around the pot & attached a few pinecones.

Cutting little pieces of colored paper & writing a pledge on each.

I tied each of them to my tree, what humility this tree with teach.

This gift was for my brother and the promises will be fulfilled.

One was for a pumpkin custard pie, two inches deep and fully chilled.

Others ranged from giving him neck massages to cutting his hair.

This was all I had to give this year to someone I loved more than air.

There were thirteen love pledges put on the little promise tree.

They were the best things I had to bestow; they were the best of me.

When my brother spied the tree, his eyes filled with loving tears.

He said, “This is the best present I’ve ever had, all through my years.”

He took me in his arms and hugged me and said, “I love you so,”

At that moment I realized, this was Christmas, no need for mistletoe.

I love these lessons that teach us it is not the value of gifts given or received but instead it is the place and the person they come from...for example... the heart of someone who cares for us.

Why is it my dear Bonnie...that even in the depth of despair....when money is tight, when your health is fragile, when things are so hard...why is it...that you can lift our spirits...you can think of others before yourself....that you can share that smile, and give hope? Why is it? God loves you...and so do I..... and look at the list of people below...just the tip of the iceberg.... hugs, lindalaw

Okay, that's it, you made me cry!!! Bonnie, THAT is a perfect Christmas poem :-)

Money? No way. Christmas was never meant to celebrate merchants (those are the guys who keep the prices jacked up until "half-price" sale on the day after Christmas). Nope. Your little promise tree is what Christmas is all about. Well done, Poet!!!
