What a wonderful blessing I have received and it all was because of Cracker Soup...

Cracker Soup

Oh how I loved cracker soup when I was sick and small.

It warmed my little tummy and I loved it best of all.

So as I grew that’s all I wanted when I was sick in bed.

And that’s what my Mommy gave me; it’s what I was fed.

No wonder I continued the tradition when my kids were small.

It too became their favorite when unwell & when growing tall.

They loved to watch me make it and stood right by the stove.

Until it was completely finished cooking and into it they dove.

Now my grandchildren also love it, even when they are well.

They all know how to make it, but they would never tell.

For it has been a family secret for more years than I can count.

Making it for dear sick friends, when they are down and out.

The littlest of my grandson’s stands right by the stove.

He watches everything I do, how to make it he now knows.

He gets out the crackers, then the milk, sugar and the butter.

He tells me what to do all through and not a word do I utter.

When finished and steaming in the little pot, his tiny tongue I see.

Just licking his watering lips and bringing memories back to me.

Suddenly I realized, those who’ve gone before will remain in the loop.

Never to be forgotten, as long as our offspring make Cracker Soup.

Great, uplifting poem, especially after reading your "I'd Follow Him Anywhere" which brought tears to my eyes.
However, it's still somewhat of a mystery, because I have 2 kinds of crackers in the house now, and there are many more available. I'm guessing Saltines are what you use, since they were so popular in the past, but Ritz were common, too, so come on, share that secret with your fans. Love, Connie

I'd never heard of this Cracker Soup...and walla...there is the recipe! Thank you! Well...my family wasn't one with an abundance of wonderful cooks (ugh...none?) anyway... this sounds so easy, maybe even I can make it? hehe... Great writing too, plus the recipe. Sort of like buying a nice perfume, and getting a free gift with it! Love it! and like Fee said...probably had ample love dashed into too..made it extra yummy and comforting.... hugs, lindalaw

Mmmmmm ... love it. Little story you bring to mind. I was raised on a farm by my grandmother. She knew about little kids. Whenever I did something bad, she would send me upstairs to bed and I would get nothing for supper but crackers and milk. Horrible punishment, right? Instead of doing evening chores, I was forced to stay up in my room and read books, and I dearly LOVED crackers and milk (still do)!!!

I see that Mr. Ed likes crackers and milk, too.

And I am going to try your recipe. Sounds yummy :-)

But I was too busy sampling than learning!

You should have tasted my Grandmother oat-soup with milk, cream, vanilla sugar and that secret thing on the tip of the fingers which always sprinkled over the pot (you couldn't see it but she assured us little that it would have a secret taste, it did) and served to a bunch of expentant brats.
