The Mightiest of Swords

There was a very young mother left all on her own.

To raise a dear little girl until she’d be fully grown.

The mother was kind and compassionate for all others around.

But fear and anxiety build up in her heart, once being sound.

She started to take her anxieties out on her precious child.

Not one physical blow was thrown, only words that defiled.

Not a scar was seen on her from her head right to her toes.

As the sweet little girl took all her mother’s verbal blows.

O, but they were there deep inside where not a soul could see.

Eating away at her tender self image, self confidence and glee.

 That beautiful precious child starting gaining lots of weight.

Protecting herself from the blows that became so angry & irate.

Her mother never meant to hurt her, she just needed some release.

From the trials and tribulations of life that never seemed to cease.

She never thought her words meant anything above all causing pain.

To what her little girl experienced when her child was not to blame.

That beautiful little girl disappeared more and more each day.

There was only an empty shell of her just standing in her stay.

Those lovely little smiles that used to come to her so easily.

Now came less often and more remote for any outsider to see.

Then one Sunday morning, the Minister read from the Holy Book.

Saying, “The tongue is the mightiest of swords,” and that’s all it took.

The Mother looked at her little girl whose tiny head was bowed in prayer.

She got up & led her child to the alter and laid it down right then and there.
