Outstanding Mitzi, you were definitely feeling the blues when you wrote this one! I grew up with the blues and recently had the honor of discovering that KoKo Taylor is a close relative. I went to Seattle a few months ago to see her perform, I was standing backstage looking out over the enormous crowd and at that moment realized the impact that the blues has over people from all walks of life. I enjoyed this most deserving tribute to the lady of blues. ~Z~
This is very deep - life is often unbearable, and only an outcry of emotions may prevent us from suicide. Wonderful accolades to these courageous women, who deeply loved, suffered and enriched all of us. Franz

Mitzi...how cool...and blue!
I LOVE the blues. Without their contributions to our world,
there would have been no jazz, no jive, no releasing of pain
in a way that makes one smile.
Some people (who never heard 'real blues') think that these
songs of heartbreak, devastation, and mortification are 'sad.'
Of course the situations that led to their penning WERE...but
how the beautiful and haunting rythym and words makes us smile!!!

Oh Mitzi, I love how you did this...I could hear a voice singing its way through...It's true what they say...you have to live the blues to really sing about it...it amazes me the incredible energy and passion blues can express from a place that is so woefully painful. Great job on this piece. Love it when you hoop and hollar!

This is a timeless piece, Mitzi, that ranks alongside the spirit and strength of those you mention in your tribute. I love the attitude in it - "If I'm gonna have da blues I'm damn well gonna enjoy it!". Gospel and Blues are very close and I love them both... do you know Eric Bibb? He's one of my favourite blues singer-songwriter guitarists and is SUCH a gracious man who relates to his audience with intimacy as if they were personal friends.
