Poem Artwork

From the day that they are born

They are entered in a race-

And though they try very hard

They will soon be gone without a trace-

But for now, the game lines are drawn,

As youth and age square off face to face.

Youth takes the lead

And leaves age far behind-

But their eyes are not on the clock

And they play as if they have all the time-

As years tick off with time running out,

With age not far behind.

Youth cannot keep up the pace

And age is gaining ground-

Although youth is putting up a valiant fight

Age refuses to give up and go down-

As youth looks at the clock,

All the smiles turn into frowns.

The clock winds down

And there is no one to wind it up again-

As the time stands still

While the old men stand back and grin-

It’s just another game of life,

And the game comes to an end.

A bit of harsh reality presented here and the young and the old battle the war against time. In this game, there are not winners, but the game itself.

I like how you have moved away from romance poems for your last two. Yes, it is a game. A game of survival for most. And for most, their only contribution is children pass on their name and nothing more. So many of us waste our lives on trivial things like entertainment and following others instead of doing something good while we still have time.

I hope I still am able to do the challenge I set my doctoral purpose… "Do something beneficial for humankind."

Your image tells it all.
