The children grow so fast and then are caught within their lives, mothers everywhere today are thinking of their children.
all of the laughter,
and all of the smiles,
gone for a time.
to see them in photos,
memories barrage,
as tears and snot course.
love and pain, all mixed up.
not gone from my heart,
I wait for word,
the mailbox a morning routine.
hoping for joy penned,
and experiences shared.
in this moment I can see my grandmothers'
knowing eyes,
I thought and presumed,
to be cherished came with a title: mom.
how could the laughter have faded,
to rocks and stone?
oh the sea wash this torment from me,
for words not spoken,
are not rock and stone,
the depths are calling,
a toll to be paid.
a mothers lament,
of voices fading in time,
stills of life captured,
further torment heartache.
shall I cry a new sea,
for to sail the time away,
and come ashore for the post?
the hourglass of time etches,
red rivers of sand,
tides of seashells.
Oh how I love the sea,
for she do'eth calling to me,
for when traveling,
one must attend the road.
Children grow quickly and go out into the world. The transition must be difficult for any mother to have the little ones leave the nest. That's why it's always good to keep up the communication even when communication is not forthcoming, because every once in a while, every child needs to come running back.
Oh how absolutely beautifully you have written of those feelings we Mothers the whole world over experience when our children fly the nest...
I especially love:
..." Shall I cry a new sea, for to sail the time away, and come ashore for the post..."
Great lines which say it just how it is...we are often torn in response to our feelings of 'moving on' for ourselves, and creating a new life to use our new 'freedom'...but still inextricably linked.....
Wonderful poem! Straight to my library.... :-)

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
It's almost Christmas. Lynn Basil is writing her last book about a secret entrance into the magical doll land of Sha Bebe that she loves so much. Bagannos have taken over the world! Lynn finally meets her dolls in real life. Can she write in a Secret
The familiar lament of dual-career parents raising children is, "I just can't do it all." The Libra Solution provides an alternative - a more satisfying and sustainable work and life approach - to the overwrought modern day norm.

Excellent poetry, Amy. This is something every Mom has to go through at one time or another. You have a gift for words, AMy. Love this!
Love and blessings,
Linda
