She was about five feet tall
and around sixteen years of age - no older.

She was just a local girl
No one ever thought of her as a soldier.

On the parade ground she found her voice got louder
As the winds got colder.

Then her confidence grew and she knew
She was cut out to be a soldier.

She stood there at attention
With a twelve pound rifle resting on her shoulder.

The town waited and waved flags as she marched off to war
There were none bolder.

Just a local girl who was greatly admired
But no one ever told her.

Oh my! This is a real eye-opener! That last line grabs the heart and squeezes out tears...Excellent message/poem, Paul!

A sobering reminder of why we should always make sure others know, how important they are to us, and how proud we are to have them in our lives.
