We’ve all seen those ships in a bottle
Those olden works of art
We’ve marveled at the workmanship
That went into each tiny part

We praise the skill that put them there
We enjoy the novelty
But those tiny ships in the bottle
Hold no mystery for me

You see, I’ve lived my life in a bottle
Oh, a different thing you say
But like those ships in the bottle
I’m in there every day

You can find my in any barroom
Just look in any bottle of rye
That’s me you see in the bottom
The man with the tear in his eye

If you wonder now how I came to be
The man in a bottle of booze
Sit down and buy me a drink, my friend
If you have a few minutes to lose

I’ll tell you a story of the artistry
That went into this deed
Of making from a healthy, happy man
A genie who can’t be freed

I once was married with children, a wife
A job I did well each day
I know what you’re thinking now my man
What more could I want, you say

I never touched the bottle back then
Oh, perhaps a sip of wine
Until that faithless wife one day
Ran off with a friend of mine

I’ve never seen my children since
I suppose I never will
And so I learned this art of drink
And found those bottles I fill

I crawl inside them and hide away
From the world that did me wrong
But first they must be emptied, my friend
Drink up….the night is long

I ran across some poetry i wrote when i was a teenager and other than the fact that i didn't know how to write without rhyming, i was fascinated by how little my subjects have changed.

Hi Sue.
I remember you writing some lovely stuff in rhyme.
Think there is may be, to many bottles in this one, maybe tipple or something to break it up more.
Still excellent.

Extraterrorestrial Beings v4 by RickthePoetWarrior

Our heroes are revealed for all they are, the final flash of a dying star, for with this pen I do they mar, with hopes I leave ‘em all a scar.

Giving Myself 'A' Reason For Going On by RickthePoetWarrior

A homonymless man writes shows what it's like to look up the laid he skirts when you’re lying prone(d) to the sidewalk, beer / joint / needle dangling from your hand /lips / arm.
