The words…

Dead men’s voices leak unused wisdom

As they stagger through their celebrity

Wasted innocence, begging , asking, confused

Morrison crying, break on thru to the other side

Too late, too soon, too much, too attuned

He struggled with demons, beyond his ability

To ride the snake, to break on thru… his need to know

What lay beyond, hid behind…what more to come

In some distant bathtub, immune at last..he knew

Hendrix reached, striving for perfection he always had

But didn’t recognize, forever out of reach, wanting,

Needing, unsatisfied hunger…reaching for oblivion

Chasing the needle down the rabbit hole..(i’m late)

He bemoaned his demise, before he realized, time

Had ceased to exist, and still he reached….

How many more, great sounds, great words

Stretched beyond their ability

To control, how many more to go, grasping

Needing to know…what lay behind...what lay beyond

The words…

Dear Sue,

A very profound and enlightening write.
It's sad when you see so many chasing
the elusive,looking for something that
isn't there or real - but to them it is.

warm hugs

Sue,
Such a thought provoking write! Do any of us realize our potential, our greatness, be it with writing poetry or taking care of a family. So often the best of the world are the last to see their own greatness. Enjoyed the thoughts you provided here.

Yes, Sue, our words (especially those of poets) are so powerful
that they sometimes cut to the bone!
This is an exceptionally well thought out and written set of
verses!

Poet, there have been so many great individuals that are/were and will be misunderstood, it’s no wonder they try reaching the other side before their time really is. Hopefully by learning that once you break on through, you cannot come back. Excellent poetry, well-balanced write. I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing your talent.
