Three o’clock in the morning, something woke me
A sound in the street, a car backfiring, something
And for just a moment, I was back there
1975 and we were in love, young and crazy
like it was that summer in Monte Rio
with the Russian River surging outside the door
marijuana on the table and LSD coursing thru our veins
we were more alive than we had ever been
more alive than we would ever be again
you strummed your guitar while I danced
alone and swaying in the middle of the room
echoes of an old Stones song in my head
I hummed while you played, smiling thru the smoky haze
Loving me like I’ve never been loved since then
And for just a moment, I was back there once more
Loving you and the Stones and Monte Rio
Before I drifted back to sleep here in St Louis
Thirty years too old and several centuries too late
I drifted back to sleep…an old Stones song
Echoing in my head
Wild, wild horses, couldn’t drag me way…

There is nothing like a good dream of reality. :-)
from you.....
memories always comes back to me (for the most part)
in Quetin Tarantino style and that is what this poem did for me
this is hot and sad and rejoice-ing and happy
all in one---you bring out such emotions!!!
enjoyed ya as always!!!
You have captured a precious moment made the more precious for me as you've lighted on one of my very favourite Stones' songs, Sue. You have a gift for making the seeming "ordinary" stuff of life "extraordinary" by the life you breathe into it, and by your wry and unique takes. Your work I find endlessly cinematic and of an enduring quality. Snapshots for the mind. Thank you. Kate xx
I thought Boy this is great, a cowgirl. lol
Well even better a hippie, and the wild horses
couldn't drag me away either. Excellent nostalgic
poem! I'm glad you shared this.
She was quite capable of taking care of herself...She appreciated everything he was doing for her and the Grandmothers Four, but she needed his help, not for him to take over.
