This is a remembrance of a way to communicate that had to give way to new technology.
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! The cry of something gone wrong. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! When I was young, I sang the song. I sang of fires and banks that were robbed. I sang of Dillinger, his Lady in Red. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Shot in the alley, the gangster is dead. I was only 14, but already I knew the importance of singing my song. They paid me more -- a dollar or two -- that went toward our rent 'cause Dad was gone. Exra! Extra! Read all about it! Dillinger died -- and life went on. Presses printed, trucks delivered, papers abounded with each new dawn. Newspapers reigned, then TV News came, and now the computer competes. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! -- gone forever from corners and streets.

And don't forget the paper boys and girls. Their first real paying job. Some parts of those days are missed, some not. The Hearst empire replaced by the Murdoch empire and so it goes. I prefer to move on to the wonders that come and fondly look back at history and my memories as great teachers of life.

I found myself humming a song about Dillinger while I was reading.
