Political Machinations

The political dragon
has established the pace,
beckoning patriotic men
to join the race.
Bludgeoning promises
by candidates are refined,
declaring health, wealth and freedom
to all mankind.
Slandering words
become political tickets;
promises are made
to organized pickets.
Financiers and reformationists
lead the fight,
paying the highest price
for power and might.
Human righteousness
and virtuous ideals
are forgotten
in the wake of monetary appeals.
Emotions
of political policies run deep;
world voices
create future promises to keep.
Tension heightens
as victories are sought;
Depates and primaries
provide food for thought.
Promises are made
to both wealthy and poor,
battles are won
only to lose the nomination war.
Goals and objectives
candidates import
at national conventions
amid cheering support.
Spirited delegates
present their political view;
But ultimately,
victorious are a select few.
Finally a vote
and people have their say;
freedom of choice
is the American way.
