Mothers and Daughters

The ultrasound delineates human form
Of new life about to be born
Expectant mothers smile once again
For precious moments from within
Nine months once seemed like an eternity
For inpatient mothers in maternity

The day arrives with cautious optimism
This baby inside awaiting momism
Mother and daughter are pronounced okay
Now resting together after a long day
Hard to believe that one so small
Demands her attention before she can crawl

Imitating mommy becomes a ritual
For a toddler insistent on being a pistol
Make-up and clothes, shoes and hats
For little girls who like to chat
Sleepovers and dance lessons, stuffed animals and pets
Define an age of innocence before mommies fret

Dating and boys supplant boxes of toys
Left in the attic for grandchildren to enjoy
College roommates, parties and friends
Take time away from moms who pretend
Of tea parties and lace, laughter and grace
When mother and daughter played in a magical place

Older now and left with sweet memories
Daughters remember mothers inside their diaries
About a time long ago when hugs were free
For little girls who may have skinned a knee
She now bends down to one so small
To retell the story of a special grandma

ahh loved it....what a special bond they had. This kind of relationship has to be earned and worked at, which from the sound of it, it was. Too many childhoods are lost to bitterness these days. I only had a son, but I can relate in a way to this. The first time they go off without us, hurts, but we say nothing...its called growing up. I hope when my son has his own family, he will tell his kids about his mum in such a way......
An uplifting write, soothed my morning.

Say Something Terrorible v3 by RickthePoetWarrior

My mom says ‘If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything’. Sorry mom but under the guise of poetic license I penned these beauties.
