Come lay with me and keep me warm
Nestled in my arms till morn
Your body flaccid after making love
I look at you from above
Lips curled with a contented look
Eyes closed after my embrace you took
I stare at an angel next to me
Heavenly sent for all to see
Your whispers quiet after pillow talk
I watch over you like a hawk
You turn and draw me close to you
Still asleep and right on queue
Snuggled under a blanket we share
Beneath the fan with wisps of air
You dream of faraway places to go
A turn of your head for your favorite beau
Morning still hours away
You should leave but I want you to stay
Silence surrounds us like a cocoon
The open window reveals a full moon
The light filters over your silky gown
Encapsulates a figure where beauty abounds
I dare not sleep and miss the view
Of loveliness rekindled and renewed
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
