           Power Meeting  {Case for Paranoia}

It is a simple plan.  Keep them at each others' throats.
Need to stop fighting among ourselves and organize.
Met some of our goals already.  Think about it:
Sick, the poor sods pay through the nose.  Handicapped,
cannot get insuramce.  Work, they are  pink-slipped
and told the company has downsized.  Tough titty.
[Alt:   the  job is being "outsourced."]   Plan to retire,
they're fired.   Goodbye investment, goodbye benefits.
These are but a few of the goals we have achieved.
Think what we can do if we put our heads together.
Need to stir the race pot more.   Need to make sure
One Religion rules.   Need to curb more rights.
Great scare tactic is to crash into their bedrooms
in the middle of the night, looking for "drugs."
Tell them a terrorist is under the bed.  "Don't look
or he will cut off your head."   Stop their cars
and look for "contraband" goes with the "profile."
Got them good and scared,  take it up a notch.
Tell them their children are drug addicts.
Tell them criminals creep in their yards.
Tell them Foreigners are after their Way of Life.
Tell them the melting pot was a mistake.
Tell them the only way they will ever feel safe
is if they let us decide what they do every minute
of every hour of every day.   Do not, repeat, do not,
allow them to say what they will do with their bodies.
Do not, repeat, do not, let them congregate
in front of a Fearless Leader if they are just saying No,
even if all they've got is a homemade placard.   Freeze
their assets, or threaten to.  Not that many have
a pot.  Do, get those Visas and Master Cards
maxed.  Manipulate!  Manipulate!  Easy enough,
now we've jacked up the cost of living.  Remember,
they are average Janes and Joes.  Complicate things.
Tax forms already snow  a lot.  Hire more lawyers
and accountants to "improve and simplify."   Done,
even we will have trouble figuring what's what.
But we don't need to.  What peons are for,
isn't it.  Now.   All on the same page?  Good.
Let's get out there and kick their butts.
Don't know about you, but I have to have a new yacht.
Jet's a year old and that new  island didn't work out.
Wife wants another lift and I need a tummy tuck..
May have a chin lift, come t'think.    Youth
can be bought, thank the Dow.   Don't follow
the money,  grab it and run.    Divide it up
in Nassau.   War on your hands, keep my share..
Great meeting!    See you next month.

Pea,
Whoa! I agree with Aberjhani, this is powerful and I could feel the anxiety building as I read further and further into your words! Excellent!

P.S. Thank you for your comments on my poem. I am happy that it inspired you to work on your novel! That is always a good thing!:)

This poem is as brilliant as it is scary. Reading it, I kept seeking George Orwell jotting notes for a sequel to 1984. A power write for a POWER MEETING.

Think what we can do if we put our heads together.

A truly frightful, and sad, image of modern life today, Phyllis.
And this makes me truly yearn - for those 'good old days.'

Pea,

Spot on. Truth spilled out boldly...we need to send this to those in power and let them know what they decide is the ruination of the people they supposedly serve. Excellent write!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
