Not the Shower I Hoped For
Ol' devil rain insists on pssssssssting
for me to come out.'
Listen, whispers. Lissssssssssssssten.
Must think the child I still am
that can't sit still
is all ears.
That she is capable of falling
for any old song.
Notes that long ago washed off paper.
That I am still open
to every whispered Trusssssst
me. Promises to be kind. Gentle,
Sweetnesssssss.
Steady as summer sun,
and as warm. Always give space.
Always keep safe. It was passion
triggered those outbursts, not
rage.
What cloud? What thunder?
Haven't heard a hint.
L'il heat lightning makes the juices
flow.
Poor devil. Even young children
know about safe rooms and alternate
parade routes.
Lullabies and love songs
don't hiss.

Love those lines, Pea, and I'll admit that the little kid inside of me often makes me run around out there in the rain with my mutts, and then the big kid in me usually gets chewed out by the little woman, for draggin in all that mud!
