We could have left Japan alone

There are more than a hundred thousand
gang member in Los Angeles alone
but only ten thousand police
I taught in a school
surrounded by a barrio
for thirty years
where I witnessed drive-by shootings
and listened to yearly
threats
Due to drugs and violence
our prisons are overcrowded
Corruption is rampant on Wall Street
and in our banks
costing taxpayers trillions
I can’t walk my daughter to school
without seeing graffiti
Have we been sold
another bridge
that isn’t there
a slice of the moon
an ice farm on Mars
all in the name of
American interests
Why not dig up Alexander the Great
and Genghis Khan,
clone them
as mercenary generals
to be joint CEOs of
The American Interest Corporation
Wall Street could sell stock
After all
history is a rerun
