A Precious Treasure

I am from the island of Newfoundland, in eastern Canada....a place that is for me, like nowhere else on earth! Tis a proud Newfie I am!!

Ancient footprints engraved
In her rugged, rocky shores!
Timeless beauty, her essence!
Air clean and chaste
Cleanses body and soul!
Pristine rivers and lakes,
Generously satiate thirst!
Majestic cliffs, enduring history,
Carved audaciously into abiding granite.
Gracious people,
The rhythm of her heart!
A distant island, diverse, unique
Bounded by an endless blue ocean!
Newfoundland – a precious treasure!

Right outside my door 250 day a year
Which I might add sounds pretty damn good about now.

Living in California and having seen so little of the world and, for that matter, so little of my own country it is rather doubtful that I will ever get to Newfoundland, but I must say that, from you words, it does sound like a very beautiful place.

HI Annabel, I spent 15 months on the Island in 1957, and 58. It was certainly one of the times of my life. Thank You for rekindleing those memories.

You captured your feelings well and the beauty of the Island. As my mother was a Newfoundlander (my dad a Prince Edward Islander) and though I was born and brought up in Nova Scotia I always thought of myself as a Newfie and was always proud of that. When I am at a party or campfire, I always try to sing Little Boats of Newfoundland and it never fails to bring a tear to my eyes.
