Growing old is something we all must do...and quite frankly I find that aging is giving me clarity I certainly never had in my youth.....

Poem Artwork

Growing old is like blossoming
Into that perfect flower
You always knew you’d be!
Seemingly right out of the blue
You wake up one day and
Life finally makes sense!
The “little things” don’t matter anymore…
For real! And you finally understand
Exactly what it means
To live each moment to it’s fullest!

There is no wisdom in youth,
How could there be?
It takes a lifetime to figure out
What the hell you’re doing here!
And while you’re searching…
For whatever your own truth happens to be
You’re way too caught up in tomorrow
To realize your future began today!
You plan to slow down after that next hurdle…
But behind that hurdle lurks another!

Then one day you reach the golden side…
Where the span of a lifetime
Is little more than the blink of an eye!
Roses still bloom, but your sense of smell isn’t so good.
The hourglass could be half empty or half full,
But you’re too tired to argue the point anymore!
Now it’s time to read that beautiful book…
The one you’ve written with memories
Of moments you can see with clarity
You wish you had in your youth!

In this moment in time I spend giving praise for your poem. May your hourglass of life be filled with blessings and love that only the Lord can provide.

YOU HIT IT ON THE HEAD, ANNABEL. TRULY...IT IS ONLY WHEN ONE IS BLESSED ENOUGH TO REACH 'THE GOLDEN SIDE' THAT WE REALIZE LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL AND WOULD HAVE BEEN SO MUCH MORE SO BEFORE, IF WE HAD EVEN 'HALF' OF THE WISDOM THEN, THAT WE HAVE TODAY. A SPLENDID WORK -SO ENJOYED. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...

Ya,,, clarity... Maybe??? Not sure that would have been my word, but for some reason it seems like I have a lot more to say than time will allow. Then again maybe not. It does feel like I'm gaining..... who's to say.

No matter what, it always refreshes me when I read great lines like these.

Well said, Anna. Thanks, Dick

I found Jesus in my late years. What I did when I was young was nothing. A very wise writing, Annabel.

Ah, you have put into words perfectly how I at least feel. Wonderful job you've done here, and expressed something I haven't had the courage to do, but now can because you have given me literary permission. (smile)

So very true Anna, the mistakes we made along the way may have been necessary for us to learn and move ahead with our lifes but still we reflect and only as we get older can we often see the error of our ways.

Clarity, yes, to a point growing older, or old, certainly does separate what once was thought of as important to what is truly important. When words came easily to me, words now so often flash into my mind, then move someplace within the spherical fringe of my mind until, when I am no longer trying to think of the word, it surfaces again but if I do not capture it at that moment, the word floats away once again.
Very good and wise words here, my far northern friend.
Your southern friend; Mark

This is beautiful, Anna. In my case the older I get the more questions I have. It seems I haven't learned a damn thing.
