When at last you reach the age of sage
And most of your pages have been turned,
The book of life will open up
Like a tulip in spring!
No more tunnel vision…
You will see with astonishing clarity
All of the things you never noticed
In the blindness of youth!
Sunsets will still glorify the horizon
With heavenly hues of purest gold!
But you’ll wonder at the spectacle,
Because you always took it for granted.
The moon will rise into the ebony sky…
Only now the stars will twinkle like they never did!
And you’ll cling to every cherished memory
Of passionate momemts swathed in moonlight!
Your pace will still be steady, but slower…
And you’ll finally catch a rare glimpse of your soul.
The thing is, you may not even recognize…
Who you really are!
All of those years went by so quickly
And in life’s twilight, at last you understand…
You should have savoured every moment!
Because life, like fine wine, is meant to be sipped slowly!

Like a spring tonic [for the winter-aged?], only ever so much
tastier and satisfying than sulphur and molasses.
I agree down the line, except that I am not that steady. Fear
I never will be. [Think the term is flibbertigibbet ;)]
Thank you for sharing this, luv.
Got any more?

Truer words were never written. Your written, Annabel, keeps getting more and more profound and branching out.

Sometimes its not till we grow older we realize all the things we took for granted along life's road, a beautiful rose, a rainbow, life in general. How fast it goes, we should have savored every moment God has given us.
Many blessings,

Yes, indeed, Anna. This poem is a keeper for me. You have capsuled the art of aging perfectly, and what's more your words ring truer than true. I have been fortunate to grow old with a minimum of physical problems. Don't get me wrong, I have three afflictions that could/will kill me, but through the magic of modern technology and my own regimented exercise and somewhat of a diet, I have bet the odds. As I beat those odds I looked around and saw what you so expertly penned here. Bravo.
so glad it did...what an extraordinary treasure this is and even more surprising is the fact that this beautiful sage muse came through one so young surely without personal knowledge of the accurancy of all your lilting flowing words.
i inform my daughters of each new age related change that i experience to prepare them for what they can expect their bodies will continue to surprise them with ...along with those not so great things i include the inner peace and beauty of each plataeu i hit...as i see them.
i'm sending them both your beautiful work of art...a truly masterful write...pmedlin
