When I was young

so very young,

I wished that I could be,just like 'Gidget'

golden blonde,

(a clone of Sandra Dee)

I nagged my folks at every chance

to let me surf a wave,

but the board,on my head scored

and life guards charged in to save.

Bleeding and unconscious,

my first time out that day,

my frantic parents told me

'You're NOT a gidget,Kay!'

Freckled face with red brown hair,

I hated every inch,

just thirteen and feeling like

a sister of

 The Grinch.

Looking in the mirror then

I cried at what I saw,

ugly,.shy,I hated I

(as well as hated what I wore.)

I had a crush on someone then

though I NEVER had a chance

to make things worse

I bore The Curse of

 SHYING from romance.

And so my dreams to be like Dee,

turned out a nightmare cast with

ME.

I think I built a great big wall

around me at that time,

pretending that

 I didn't care ( pretending I'd be fine.)

*Moondoggy

was my fantasy,

(James Darren, Gidget's lead,)

I lived amongst the flowers

but knew I was a weed.

Now this would be a tale of woe,

except for *Georgy girl,

I loved that movie,and that song,

so I gave that plan...a whirl.

I got a job in a beauty parlour

(a thorn on the rose bush there)

and I let them do whatever they wanted,

'cause by then I oozed despair.

Freckle removers,a passionfruit diet

tints and lotions,' come on Kay, try it!'

Cloning myself on someone else,

pretending to be that way,

mini skirts

learning flirts,

but, whatever happened to Kay?

Well, someone fell in love with me

( or the me he THOUGHT I was,)

but, that's another story,

first there's this one,

just because,

I have something to share with you,

I learnt it long ago,

YOU are 'The best'

when YOU are YOU,

YOU'RE ORIGINAL

you know.

There is someone on this Earth

who was made your perfect match

but if you change yourself

at all

they won't see you there,to catch .

They're looking out for someone

the EXACT of your TRUE self

but if you're putting on a mask

they wont find YOU on life's shelf

You know that flaw you try to hide

(the one you really hate?)

the one you try to camouflage

and make a different state?

Perhaps it is your narrow eyes ,

or that nose ( just like your 'Pop's,')

or perhaps it is your fuzzy hair,

or the way your rear end drops!

Well,the good news is

there's someone there

who wants you 'JUST THAT WAY,'

so please

don't ever change a thing

or else they will not  stay.

Perhaps they've even passed you by

while you were in disguise

they couldn't see that it was you

for you hid behind those  lies.

They'd be so sure to love you,

(and that includes your warts,)

they'd be so sure to hug you

(and that is even with your faults.}

It's no use wishing that you were

 a dazzling movie star,

 cause they can't find you

not unless

you are

just who YOU are.

So guys

ignore your bald patch

and forget your  nerdy side

 for THE  Right one

she will not care

she'll just see what's INSIDE.

And girls

don't think you have to diet

and be a model's weight

'cause your Right one wants ALL of you,

(or else...there'll be ...no date.)

Yes you can leave the freckles there

and just be WHO YOU ARE

'cause in your perfect matches night

YOU will be

THE STAR!

I'm telling you all of this,

to save you from a mess

just wait for what is meant for you

for that will be...' THE BEST !

I'll have to take my OWN advice

in all these things I write

for I am still stuck on that shelf

with no star in my night

he would have seen me

I am sure

but I was being

' Dee ,'

and he just passed out of my life

without a glimpse... of me.

The moral to this little tale is

 always be

JUST YOU,

you are the ONLY ONE there IS

and that,you KNOW,.IS true .

Perhaps I'll get a second chance

when one day he'll stroll by

and be assured,that if he does,

the next time, I'll be- I.

*Moondoggy (played by James Darren) was *Gidget's (played by Sandra Dee) big love in the movie 'Gidget.'.Moondoggy was also my first big crush as a teenager.

The other movie mentioned, *Georgy Girl ,stared Lynn Redgrave it was all about being yourself and trimphianting by doing so even against the odds.The song by THE SEEKERS is my favourite.

 Both these movies and the song too had a major influence on my life.
