Lipstick on my mirror
in the middle of the night,
because I rarely find a pen,
when I'm decide to write.
It always happens after twelve,
but mostly two or three,
ideas for rhymes, or silly lines,
that plague and pester me.
Before,I thought that these would wait,
so I could stay in bed,
but when I woke ,it was no joke,
that they had left my head.
So these days when I'm half asleep
and little 'gems' awake,
I drag myself out of my bed
and to my mirror take.
My lipstick is the pen I use,
it's ALWAYS there,for sure,
and I feel pleased
when morning comes,
to read my pale pink score.
My friends just sigh,
with brows raised high,
if they 'drop in' at nine,
for it's still there,
(and I dispair ,
as they behold my mind.)
Thank God the ones who love me best,
just shake their heads and smile,
and they don't care to wipe it off,
or question my weird style.
Then when my birthday comes around,
their gift's an easy pick,
it's not a pen ,
(not for this friend)
just five to ten
...lip stick.
