 Need to Write

               By

Mark M. Lichterman

Mind blocked,

haven’t a clue.

Nothing to say,

What’ll I do?

Need to write!

Haven’t a thought.

Minutes passing

and still…zero, zip, naught.

Thinking,

Thinking,

mind’s in a whirl,

brain now,

brain’s a-twirl.

Words of love…

Nah, not in the mood.

Get up, go!

Go get some food.

Back now,

eating’s done

but mind’s still blocked

and this ain’t fun.

Need to write!

Haven’t a thought.

Minutes passing

and still…zero, zip, naught.

Tail a-wagging,

snout nudging my knee.

“Outside, Kody?”

Okay! Maybe… we’ll see.

No argument here,

No need to wait,

out the doggy door

standing at gate.

Kody chasing a squirrel,

away from the screen

within my mind nothing,

nothing yet to be seen

Deeply breathing the air,

clearing my mind,

nothing there,

nothing there can I find.

Back again and still no thought.

mind searching, searching

and still… zero, zip, naught.

Oh, well,

may as well

give up this day,

switch computer for TV

and let my mind lay.

Later maybe,

maybe, we’ll see

‘cause got to write!

So later maybe,

maybe… we’ll see.

I have had this feeling for quite some time now. It seems when I am not feeling well I can not write at all or barely.,

Having mental block is like drinking alcohol free beer. You keep trying but nothing happens. Except maybe you get full of it. I suggest picking one single unusual but not necessarily elaborate word. And write about the word. Patrick

When I try to hard to write nothing comes out! Let your mind relax and do something else. My best thoughts are never expected. I carry a little journal with me everywhere when a thought comes I write it down. Don't push too hard cause nothing comes out that way...that sounds interesting but you know what I mean. Cute poem that everyone can relate to. I think of it as writers block and I have it every other day...Take care my friend. :)

It happens to us all, Mark, and I do the same thing ... switch to something else and let it come naturally back to you. I think just about everyone here can relate to this one! ~Your friend, Lizzie

Mark,
In a very relevant way, you've expressed my 'block' and I bet others have expressed similar silences.
Yours was cured by writing about not being able to write. What a great way to tackle a problem!
Continued success~
