You gave me a message
and sang me a song;
to my heart full of questions
you said, "Please come along.
Take my hand and walk with me;
I'll show you some of Life's treasures.

So with a heart full of questions
and wide-open eyes
a little girl started her journey
into the place where the dreamer's dream lies,
and anything you want is NOW.

I was wild with wonder--
no longer Life's slave,
with the best yet to come. . .
The secret Heartcave;
you said, "This is our staff of Choice."

Though this staff of great strength
I knew could be mine,
I understood not its true meaning
until I sought out some questions
and searched a long time
to discover that the staff is Me!

My staff of strength
has been with me always
as I have traveled down
life's darkened hallways;
you taught me how to use it.

In dreamer's dreamland
I was forever walking--
about this dream
I was forever talking;
you said, "Remember, your dream is Now."

Now, my dreamland is here--
a dark past is gone.
I live my life full of dreams
one by one.
The Brighter Day has Risen!

The message that I
would like you to receive
is that in you
I will always believe,
for I know what you have taught is Real.

So, depend on your Self
for all that you need,
and follow your dreams
wherever they lead . . .
In them we find Life's treasures.

Lauren is my brother, ten years older than I. In his teens, as he discovered works like "Be Here Now," he would read them to me, and encourage me to stretch my grasp of meaning. I have Spastic Cerebal Palsy and walked with crutches until I was 19 years old. The poem was written when I first walked without crutches.
