Tribute to Dr. Armond J Scully

A giant of a man in stature
striding an easy six foot five,
he was an orthopedic surgeon
and an angel in my eyes.

My parents were refered to him
when, on the day that I turned one,
they learned I have Cerebral Palsy,
to investigate what could be done.

I was less than two years old
when I came into his life--
his Presence offered me so much more
than the skill of a surgeon's knife.

Through life's doors one might suppose
that he came into mine,
but ours was a relationship
of an awe-filled, pardaoxical kind--
As each operation brought us closer,
with all that I came to love him for,
it was abundantly obvious
for mysterious reasons
he loved me infinitely more.

You see, I'd run into him
in other places
and at the oddest times.
Each time he made me feel
I was exactly who
he expected to find. . .

Each time he would drop
what he was doing
or stop the world mid-stream
to surround me in a hug surreal--
a moment made of sweetest dreams.

In surgeon's circles
he is a famous man
for mending shattered bones
and passing on the gift
of all that he's done and known.
But in my youngest heart
he is a leagend
far beyond his healing hands.
