Sunless Flowers Never Open

Attempting to hold we are all one begs the question of why we abuse ourselves.

Sunless Flowers Never Open

How doggedly the pursuit
For ill-begotten success
Trappings concealed
Amidst tensile voids of darkness
While beneath the facade
Existence reflects
Life's sun
moon
tides
And wind

How wise
How longsuffering
These roots that nourish

 Time seeds in all sizes
Color
Strength
Courage
Wonder lust
Yet few grow to full bloom

Perhaps

Few plantings find solace in the wait
This patient evolution of consciousness
Save the flower
Whose mysterious
Enigmatic fragrance of simplicity
Requires little to nurture
Its essence

From sprout of survival
To bloom of vivacity
This willingness to risk
Tenuous mission of trust
For yield of bouquets
Begets colored voices of harmony
Reaching skyward
With velvet touch
Becoming unsung voices of feeling
For that is what transcendence does

Still

 Some proclaim dominance
Over such fragile children of nature
Stuffing them in reservoirs of water
Ignoring their tenuous innocence
Yet quick to moan when they wilt
Obviating guiles of fault
A duplicitous romance with life
The consummate shattering of fragrance

So goes the nurturing of many relationships
Seeding
Maintaining
Enjoying a sensorial feast like no other
Until...

Solipsism knows not its
Egregious error
Remaining without light
Destined to but emulate
Sunless flowers
That never open

this poem speaks to more than abuse to ourselves. But, to others is to yourself.

for me, the angry poet here
but anger tempered and delivered with sophistication,
superior word choice and subtle evaluation

(i'm out of sss... now!)

Work with clout and bite, Odin

Guard your flowers well; the rank world is full of light-destroying dark ones!

Again, Odin, Nelson Mandela's words (sic) that "it's not our dark that we're afraid of, but our light" come to mind here. Yet we are a humanity of two parts: the former "shrinking violets" and those that are weed-like, choking everything that stands in its way. Yet the will to survive remains deep within the seed of each one of us. For me, this central stanza is key and wholly uplifting:

From sprout of survival
To bloom of vivacity
This willingness to risk
Tenuous mission of trust
For yield of bouquets
Begets colored voices of harmony
Reaching skyward
With velvet touch
Becoming unsung voices of feeling
For that is what transcendence does

... within each of us is perhaps that reached for "sublime" and I like to think that this community of writers here is such that encourages each one of us to strive for that. I like that "transcendence" is the hinge to this poem, notwithstanding its downward-spiral of "stunted" introspection at the end How perverse we are as mortals to seek the dark rather than life-giving light! :)) xx
