Sometimes Nighttime can be a bad time.

Poem Artwork

Digging through the trenches of my mind
trying to keep every bad memory at bay
I swallowed long and hard
Jolting me from this time into yesterday
.
When old haunts gather and nestle in my bed
The nights swallowed the day
Fear enters my heart and soul
For nightmares come to prey
.
Innocence of a young girls dream
Roughened by an uncaring man
Abused and torn she silently prayed
Never to trust her heart to another again
.
Years of fear changed her
From a youthful happy girl
Into a scared and frightened woman
Up against the world
.
time passes and plans were laid to run
Money secreted away,,,clothes shipped out
Waiting for the right time had begun
.
Now a shell...thick and unpenetrable
takes this hearts place
No more lies...no more pain
Memories never erased

A heart-wrenching piece, Kathy. The pain is palpable. Familiar to too many, I think. ~Hugs, Elizabeth

Poignant expression of a tragic reality for far too many
innocents, Kathleen.
The depth of your experience & wisdom shines through each line.
Brava, poetess!

So often I read the words that have been written by people that I now call friends and I find it hard to believe that what they write is from, or due to their own experiences and hope that the words they write are just words cleverly or beautifully constructed to make the reader thoughtful or happy or sad, and this is most certainly the case here Hazel Eyes. I do hope that these are just words and not built of a true nightmare.

Poignant poetry of abuse that tears at many a young woman's heart and mind and leaves them with haunting memories until the right man comes along and erases them.
