There is a time between
When twilight sleep brings
Thoughts of the great poets
To my mind as I silently sleep
.
Walt Whitman, Carl Sandburg,
Robert Frost, Pablo Neruda
Great poets but just a few
As I sleep they wander through
Haunting my muse
.
Each unique in their style
Sharing what only they can do
With their pens dipped
In ink of liquid gold
.
They take me to heights
I myself cannot reach
I look to them for their help
To open my mind and heart
To what they can only teach
.
Each one writes with their heart
Withholding nothing……
That they want to share
Opening up others minds
To what is right and fair
.
These times are my favorite times
For I can see their words with my mind
Opening up my muse inside of me
Letting it come out for all to see
.
The love and joy seeps into the soul
As we read their works of happiness
Of righteousness and of sorrow
.
With pad and pen by my bedside
Sometimes I wake at night
To jot down a thought or two
That was shared with my muse
