Winter Angel

It was the sound of her voice;
this dear angel of mine-
The saving graces of safety;
when she'd call to dine

My rock of warmth and comfort;
frozen fingers and stinging toes-
Hot chocolate with smiles as sweet;
raging fires and fresh dry clothes

To tell the tale of winter's gray;
the magic of the redbird's wing-
*Listen child to the harmonies,
as all of nature sings*

Snow drifts and icy boughs;
rainy days and nights-
She'd keep the promise of Spring;
in the sadness of winter's bite

*My little child sleep in peace,
beneath a blanket of dreams*
*Wish upon the stars so bright,
and ride their endless beams*

Rabbit trails into the brush;
a new fallen snow delight-
In the sound of my angel's voice;
made childhood feel so right

majestically beautiful poem embracing the joys of nature with the wonder of youth and children...almost like a magical walk through a child's eyes. Well done Lisa.

Now isn't this just lovely, Lisa. A nostalgic walk through a time long gone by. At first I thought you were writing about someone who had been lost, which in a way, I suppose you are. I then realized that it was a memory of a different time when life was simpler. As we go on through our lives, our memories are often of us, but then we have been so many different us' in our lifetime, haven't we. Child, teen, college student, mom, grandma...the list goes on and on and we seem to morph slightly with each change and that little girl from so long ago is more of an image than the lady we are today. Beautiful heart-warming write, Lisa, penned with the perfection I have come to know as your personal style. You brought a soft smile to my face this morning.
Take care,
Sherry

Been wondering about you, haven't heard your "voice" in a while. Great poem about a childhood fantasy. I suppose we all had our own spiritual or make-believe things to help us navigate through the strange world of grownups.
