Book of Reasons

In my book of reasons

There are excuses for all that I have done

There are scenes of tormented moments

There are relationships that I damaged with my words

There are pledges of no ill intent

There are weak apologies for wrongful actions

In my book of reasons

There are answers for my life and my ways

There are images of the past that have led me to this place

There are incidents that made me strong and those that made me weak

There are sunsets that made me cry and sunrises that gave me hope

There is apathy and there is indifference

In my book of reasons

There are seeds that, though sown, have never grown

There is anger that steals the breath from angels

There is no ray of hope for those who have forgotten how to live

There is no forgiveness for those who have done harm

There is a heart that has learned how to hate

In my book of reasons

There is a way to forgive weakness

There is a way to begin again

There is a way to love the unlovable ones

There is a way to find beauty in the filth of life

There is a way to soar without wings

In my book of reasons

There is an answer for why things are as they are

There is a way to rise up and become more than I am

There is faith to guide me

There is love to fill my spirit

There is life to be lived

We each have a book of reasons

We each have a choice of how we live

We each can choose joy or sadness

We each can choose to see or to be blind

We each can continue to live in anger and hatred

We each can believe that love and faith can change the world
