Pathways
I have been homeless for about nine years now
I am not stupid nor am I uneducated, I am just poor
In the place where I live, there is no room for poverty
I am shunned because I wear recycled clothing
I am regarded as an animal because I sleep in doorways or on the ground
I love the world that spins around me, though I am not a part of it now
Once I was a businessman, I had my degree and a great job
I had a boss who was dishonest and placed me in a position to take a fall
He embezzled and I was the one who was blamed
I went to jail and that was the last time I had work
I thought I could redeem myself; I thought that someone would believe me
I was sorely mistaken. Would you believe that I still have a Library Card
I read everyday as I sit and watch the world pass me by
It is not the worst life, I could be without self respect
Like my former boss who committed suicide while I was serving his time
I wish he would have left a note, absolving me of his crimes
I wish he would have had the credibility to have not done it at all in the first place
But he was not right, somehow; he thought money would make him happy
I am happy, though I have no money, I have my self esteem and the sunrises
I am a camper every night and in the morning I bathe in a waterfall or stream
I once was a soldier, I would have gladly died for my country and for freedom
I now have more freedom than I ever imagined and yet I live in seclusion
I have more faith than I ever knew I could muster
Yet I am not welcome at the church except for at the door that leads to the soup kitchen
I have learned that poverty is regarded as a contagious disease
I think of myself as a man from a time long ago, perhaps a pioneer
I live off of the land and I sweat in the sunshine
I sleep under the stars and the moon and I fall asleep marveling at the Constellations
Oh, did I mention that I have a dog, named Rex?
He is my only true friend and my constant touch with reality

One only has to know that you've written to know they are in for a well-mastered write when they open your Den!
The images this painted was clearly a masterpiece for the soul. Not only could they be seen, they were felt and would transport one to very spot of this man's world.
When you take a challenge..it can't be matched!
Take care and be well!

Some like it, some pull off the streets
and live better lives..
"If I have to...Then I may as well be."
You've captured, dramatically and realistically, the plight of a homeless person. BRAVA!
