My Recurring Childhood Dream-Thunderduck’s Challenge

Lord, how I hated this dream!

My Recurring Childhood Dream-Thunderduck’s Challenge

My recurring dream would make me scream

Though I haven’t had it for years

It was creepy and scary and made me quite wary

And sometimes would leave me in tears

In the dark of the night, way before the daylight

A nightmare would brew in my head

In my dream I’d awake, a discovery make

There were spiders all over my bed

An adrenalin rush, through my body would gush

And awaken me, scared, from my sleep

Then lo and behold as the truth would unfold

Reality made my heart leap

Brown spiders were packed as mesh back to back

My blanket they had become

I could see them moving, consequently proving

My safety was diminishing some

I'd scream into the night, creating a fright

As my dad would rush to my aid

He’d ask “what’s the matter and why all the chatter”

“It’s spiders and I am afraid”

He’d not turn on the light, just speak free in the night

That no spiders did hide in my bed

“Now go back to sleep and don’t utter a peep

Your imagination is ruling your head”

Thank gawd that the sheet, the spiders did keep

Away from my body and face

When the morning did dawn I’d wake with a yawn

Not a spider I'd find in the place

We always have recurring dream. I think I had written some too.

A well-described well-told poem/story.

I find your poetry to be imaginative and fun! You should write children's books. They would love it....

I also don't like spiders. Though I've never dreamt about them; but then I don't dream much. I wonder why that is. Nice work

Best wishes

Wow I too hate spiders
they are ok with me
as long as they stay out side
once they enter my domain
I would say you met your challenge

Very tightly woven, Sherry! Not a web I would want to be caught in, either! It's the way they skitter about that is so unnerving, I think. Love the galloping rhythm which carries this along with a sense of purpose... "I WILL overcome this!" Well done. TY Kate xx

We have alot in common Ms. Sherry...I absolutely freak when I see a spider! Big, small, slick, furry, skinny or fat..they creep me out.
I felt my muscles tighten as I read this..
I'm with the rest of the crowd..you do meter and rhyme perfectly..but then again..I've always known you were one great writer!

A beautifully crafted gem Sherri, spiders are pretty cool though, they are themselves' artists.

you do rhyme so well, Sherry. were they the furry kind? the Daddy Long Legs I could deal with, but those fat stomach, furry types freak me out entirely... enjoyed. Dawn

I agree with Eileen Sherry, this is a very decen rhyme, and the cadence just follows step after step. But, If I would have had a nightmare like that, I would be screaming so loud, they'd hear me in Timbuktu. I mean it sis, I hate spiders, snakes, bugs, except ladybugs and butterflies, and I hate the bogey man, cause if I ever saw him, I'd punch his lights out for good (giggles). Then only "bug" movie I ever saw was a 50's movie called "THEM", about giant ants that were teh result of atomic testing in New Mexico. James Arness played the FBI agent in charge of the investigation, because an FBI agnet on vacation, was killed by these ants. Other than that, I have not watch any "bug" movie. May the Lord Jesus bless you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & (((HUGS))), Barbie

What a gem this is Sherry the cadence and rhyme are magical! The nightmare is horrific to me who would never sleep if I had such dreams of the "arachnids",couldn't watch the movie;-), glad I never dreampt of them! Superb work!

eileen
