Breaking Through The Voices

This is a poem of a composite of people I work with who have a mental illness. It is a tribute to them.

She sits and lives in a world of her own

The voices seem so loud, and can't leave her alone

They yell and tell her to hurt herself and

to go in the street.

What can I do to calm her

How can I break through the imaginary world in her mind?

There are moments where she seems to be able to see me

if only for a minute. That is the time I can let her know I am with her

to show her there is someone in the world who can be loving

The world has not been kind to her and her inner world is chaotic at best

If just for that one moment she can feel love and peace, what a blessing

that is. If I can break through her fears and voices. Oh yes what  a

blessing. The people I see have so much to give, yet have so many

challenges. If we can see past their voices, hullucinations and behavior

we will see a beautiful person who just wants to be respected and

loved.I don't think that is to much to ask. I can do that.

Cindy it takes GOD for people 2 acknowledge their insanity. Now tell me what is sane in the world without Christ? Nothing. You wil agree with me that sin is insanity in itself. But the WORD of GOD make us daily renew our sanity by the help of the HOLY SPIRIT. thanks for da poem

It is really sad how many people who need psychiatric care have been neglected by society. My brother is a psychiatrist, his practice is in New York. He says when he travels to other states he is amazed by how few mental facilities there are outside of major metropolitan areas. And even then, there isn't enough beds, doctors or care to help these people. It is a tragedy.

You have a difficult job, but I am happy to know you are doing it.

...and God Bless you. If only there were more people like you in this world, that can be so cruel and ignorant of the people that recede into their pain.
All too often these people are judged and cast out as a drug addict. You seem to have a grasp of the trap that minds can get caught in and you see there is a wanting for escape, only an open heart and hand is needed. Thank you for sharing this,Warmth and Love to you, Carin'
