"Spring Above the Clouds" - Stained glass mix media by author. I used to live in Woodland Park, CO, "The City Above the Clouds," at 8500 feet. Spring was as your winter. My social life took place at the mailbox. Alone.

                 GLOBAL SWARMING

The problem, I think, is continental drift.
But for that, we'd all inhabit one land,
perhaps called “Land.”
But I forgot about the weather.

Some folks are pale, others dark, others, other.
The elements dictate attire and other logistics,
such as type and frequency of communion
(e.g., front-porch musings, church, or just TV?).

Climate is, of course, bipolar, and engenders gods.
Some areas need rain, others, surcease of rain.
Some pray for crops, others, for fewer mosquitoes.
Deity speaks countless tongues, which leads to

myriad customs, rituals, charismatic
holy men, and the fervent, unrelenting
necessity of defending one's territory against
the encroachment of new ideas.

Propoganda, political institutions, genocide,
and subtler carnages ensue.  All to save us from us.
I'd vowed not to discuss the weather anymore,
being quite done with small talk.

I can see your point when such weighty issues become water cooler fillers we know we are in trouble.

You have in few words established the holy crux of our human existence, your metaphors are beautifully poetically coloured with deep inherant wisdom. I enjoyed it very much and will save it in my library. Blessings! Jasmin Horst
