Trainspeak

I live in a small town that still has a train running through it, bisecting North from South. I find it comforting to know that in spite of everything, trains still run at their appointed times.

 

Late, the 3:15 freight
Gives notice of its
Impending self.
One long,
Two short,
One long.
 
I crush my body
Into the sound,
Copulating with
Cacophony,
Until the Doppler
Is white noise
In the distance.
 
I breathe myself
Back into myself.
Quietly.

A great analogy of the train, who's days have mostly come an end. I can imagine riding the rails and viewing this great country.
