I’ve seen you before
When I walked out the door
And never thought I’d see you again.
You must have been
In my karmic field,
Long lost soul and friend,
But you are not as composed as you seem to be,
A bit self-destructive around the edge
(And you don’t think I see. Please.)
Everything’s coming back in a flash,
The way you sympathize,
The way you close your crazy stalker eyes,
The way you overstep,
The way you ignore my debts and count your own,
The way you take control of me,
My mind, my body, my soul.
You can’t can’t cant’ calm down for once.
I end up criticizing you for being the same.
I end up analyzing,
When you tell me to stop with a tilted voice,
Everything you don’t say.
You’ll just deny the day (when the stars touched down).
You’ll just deny my way (and everyone who came before).
And I do not want to go down this trail with you.
Just let me go. Walk away.

I’m not your fallen angel.
I’m not your fallen angel.

You pull me up up.
Away now.
All it does is bring our feathers
To the ground.
I’m facing myself
In a distorted mirror,
Laughing at the irony like a clown.
Please set me down
Before I change to you
And don’t forget to breathe.
Don’t forget to be a little better than you were
And always remember my screams.
I remember my dreams,
Not of you, not of you.
I’m on the defensive line
Until you grab my shield,
Wrestling with the way I know the world to be
And we spiral down down down
Together.
You’d think I’d wait for you
Because that’s what you would do.
You’d think I felt the spark
In the dark dark darkness of your residual angel.

I’m not your fallen Angel.
I’m not your fallen Angel.

I see that drama mask
Is just one side of your face.
I can’t just leave Jekyll without a trace
Unless I slow down my pace.
I don’t get you.
I don’t get you, babe.
I don’t want you, babe.
Stop telling me what to think.
I didn’t make you.
I cannot shake you.

I’m not your fallen Angel.
I’m not your fallen Angel.

I don’t know what to think when you’re on the brink
Of denial.
I’ll put you on trial,
When you least expect,
To learn how to file you away.

Son of an Angel.
Son of an Angel.

Prosetry at Work by Odin odin@aflx.com

This book represents a thirty-day period of my poetry journal. Each poem addresses the dominant thoughts occupying my mind during the early morning hours of a given day.
