What my three years old grandson saw and thought when his father's truck drove into my drive. His father is in Iraq.It is in my next book.

Through My Eyes

Did any of you big walking-around people
Ever think about the world through my eyes?
I do not talk real well and I run everywhere.
Every day I see new things and wonder why?

What are they? What do they mean to them?
I have everything to learn and each day is new.
The world is wonderful and a gift without ribbon.
When I smile, I smile all over, inside and out too.

I love my wooden trains or a cartoon’s music.
I dance the best I can, but cannot keep the beat.
Puppies are stuffed animals that live and breathe.
If my mind will not take me there I go on my feet.

When I hurt, little or great big, I scream loudly.
There is no little joy nor is there just small pain.
Every day is a new life and I am just what I be.
Papaw knows I think and feel and have a brain.

I miss my Daddy; I know when he dresses funny
He is leaving me again, to somewhere; it has to be.
He was out all last summer doing who knows what
But I know something is different deep in my heart.

I look for him every day and Mommy says wait.
Your daddy loves you, will return to us one day.
Today I saw Daddy’s truck, thought it was now.
It could not be anyone else, I could not see how.

I was in the big window, on Grandma’s couch.
I stood there happy, just waiting and looking out.
It was papaw getting out of Daddy’s truck not him.
I love my papaw but it is just not quite the same.

I feel things and sense things even without a book.
Papaw saw me and knows; I can tell by his look.
He sees me ask, “Where is my Daddy?” and is sad.
I want to cry and so does he; we both feel so bad.

Papaw tells me Daddy is off doing his sworn duty.
I do not know what it means but it must be for me.
Daddy never does anything without me in his heart.
I will hug Papaw so his tears stop; we are not apart.

Both your son and grandson will treasure this poem, what a wonderful gift to give them- and it's great how you looked through your grandson's eyes.

Such a powerful gift you give your sons: your love, first of all, and your duty to your Nation: thank you, Sir. Beautiful.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Your son will love this when he grows up and learns to read and understands that you love him very much. Believe me, they grow up so fast before you know it and before your very eyes. Good tribute to your son.
