Aging’s Mystery
I am learning aging’s mystery.
As George says, getting old ain’t for sissies.
We fight life’s battles.
The disputes are etched in our weary faces.
Even if done with grace
The lines deepen our countenances.
We ache in broken bones.
We carry scars from old wounds.
We show the battle lines.
Our hearts are shattered at times.
Souls show darkly even dimly.
Eyes glisten in clarity of memory.
They even water when
We see children; what’s ahead of them?
We are where they have been.
The more we change the more we are the same.
Life ain’t always a fun game.
But it is still the only one.
And eventually it is done.
As at last we solve Aging’s mystery
Let us pray that our final resting
Comes without misery.
