At the dawn’s early light
When it sweeps away the night
Comes a pause – a preoccupation
That is known as Children at Play.
We hear in the playground below
The running and stopping of little feet
The sound of swings, the thump of the see-saw
And the joy of children’s laughter.
Between the playground and the street
There’s a sign posted, "Slow – 15 miles Per Hour"
We stop and ask ourselves, "Is that for us or them? "
They briefly glance as-to say, "It’s not for Children at Play! "
As the night begins to set
It begins to cover any remaining shadows
And the running, the sounds, and laughter have ceased
We know that the morn will once again bring Children at Play.
You have a way of bringing life to things we often take for granted. Nothing is as precious as our children, our future. (That's from a six time grandma!)
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
