Had its origins - south of France,

Rather medieval to say the least.

The term was originally coined in

the Daily Mail, "Hey brother, can

you spare a dime, would like to

vote" - American campaigners.

Were given the name by those

quite hostile - emphasized the

'ette' ending, but it was really a

new beginning - freedom rings on.

The suffragette movement was

run by working class women -

Took direct action . . . chained

themselves, and set off bombs.

During WWI, there was a shortage

of men - the women took on the

Roles normally held by them - lead

To a new view of what they could do.

Their movement finally made it into

the mainstream, calling for a Cease-

Fire . . . by those who were so blind

Finally got the right to vote in 1929.
