"Look over your shoulder, 'Cause there's always someone coming after you . . . "

Poem Artwork

As she looked at her

symmetrical reflection

in the glassed window

she put her hand up to

it to touch the pane and

it went right through it

but didn't get cut; put

her hand on herself;

Felt the solitude and the

pain - he had cheated on

her again and again, each

time tried to make up, but

finally she had enough and

told him to pack his things - he

left on an old Greyhound Bus;

As it passed her glassed

window, he tried to call out

but his voice was muffled by

the motor - ran kinda rough;

As rough as he had treated her

conjugated her like a verb

their love didn't have a

common derivation;

And as quickly as the

relationship had begun

it ended, but not the

tormented memories in her

head - which by now were

beginning to set like cement;

She then tried to pull her hand

back through, but the glassed

window had sealed itself around

her arm - she was now growing

more and more desperate;

Desperate enough to hit the

glassed window with a vase - it

shattered it into a thousand pieces

and in each piece she saw a

different symmetrical reflection;

A reflection of each of the

thousand days that she and

he were together - she even

saw the women that he had

sexual relationships with;

Then, she began to cry, and

each tear hit precisely on each

piece of fragmented glass

washing away all the memories

both the good and bad;

She swept up all the jagged

pieces that were once a glassed

window and threw them away, and

when she awoke the next

morning, that same glassed window

was back in place - but there was no

more symmetrical refection, but

rather a glassed darkly;

He had been killed in a bus accident

driver lost control, went over a bridge

into an icy river - no survivors, and now

had returned in a rather threatening

manner - stood there with a menacing

look, bloodied and dark blue, for he had

walked to her place from his watery grave;

He held out his hand which was barely

attached to his wrist, was holding a

wedding band - looked at her and said,

"Marry me, I insist!"
