Hunted to sieze food
Did it by graceful flight
Quietly, made no sound
Sharp talons extended
Sank in - there before
The grace of this Bird
of Prey it went silently
Into the night, brought
Back to the sanctity of
The nest, the field mouse
Was victimized at the
Hunter's expense, was
The survival of the fittest
Night after night the
Winged hunter flew for
Miles and Miles, oft times
It never ate, then one day
Became a victim of DDT
The Bird of Prey had lived
A short life cycle . . . why?
