Ship of Fools

Old age,
When nobody is there,
For you and me...
You shall be mine,
And I will be yours-
Wish we are ours now…

I want to look after you...
Care for you,
Like you are mine.
I want to be with you...
Watching your beautiful heart,
Which you used to care,
For others in your life.

I want to be with you...
To care for you,
When there is no one in your life...

You speak so sweetly,
Of a dream I see,
Yet feel no reality,
In the words you speak…

Old age,
A time of weakness and pain,
Aching bones and failing heart,
Is not for me!

I am strong now!
I love now!
I cannot see tomorrow,
Except in dreams I do not believe!

You tell me you love me,
Yet you are so far,
Too far!
To see your sweet face,
Except in dreams,
Sweet dreams that leave my face wet,
With tears when I wake…

I do think of those dreams you feel in your heart,
Expecting it to come true one day
I know I can give you a lot of happiness...
I know I can care u like a princess...
I want those dreams to come true
Wish you too pray for the same...

Dreams,
That is all they are,
Shall I live for a dream?
Shall I wait for a reality,
I can’t see?

This sorrow burning in my heart,
Has a name,
Love,
What a sham it is!
What dreary despair it brings!

Hope is a ship of fools,
Drowning in a sea of dreams,
Waiting hopelessly for love to save them!

Shall I be this fool for you?
Is this what you ask me to do?
There is no choice for me,
I love you…

I am waiting for you,
I don’t mind being a fool in love-
As I know you love me-
You understand me,
I don’t name me a fool
Instead I am proud to see you,
On a land very far away;
Where my hopes and dreams
Can be shipped…

You talk of ships and fools
Let me answer you then,
About the way I feel;

Dreams are ships of love,
Which we carry with hopes-
When we look forward we see water,
Where nothing can be written
But I see my hope clearly-
In the land of my dreams...

Ah love,
What can I do,
But wait for you…
I shall keep watch then,
In my heart and soul,
Waiting for the day,
When we will know,
Whether love can be,
A dream or reality…

My mind says no,
But my heart beats so quickly now,
Wondering if we both sail,
With full hearts on a ship,
Which can never land…
Except in a dream,
Only lovers could understand…

According to Deepak Chopra aging is learned behaviour. Just unlearn it and you will be fine.
Did you know Ship of Fools is the title of a 14th century German poem, I can't just remember who it is by; also a series of works by an artist friend of mine Robin Bonass. So you are in good company here. I enjoyed the poem again for the rich imagery and the central theme of enduring love.

Nicely created Reatta. As soon as I read the title my mind kept saying, "world of fools," do you think we are all being had? l&p G

If love is a ship of fools, then let the rhythm of the waves be the beat of my heart. Then wind in the sails, be my gentle sigh when I think of the distant shore. And the scent of the sea, the fragrance of my hearts longing...

As always you have written a beautiful poem full of deep imagery...

This has a very lyrical feeling to it. Very good imagery. I could almost hear music, and sails flapping to the wind. Good work!

This is so very bittersweet. Speaks to me of that love that waits...and waits...and hopes. When we love...there is always hope...but waiting too long can put a real strain on that hope. This collab really walks both sides of the line...and is very easy to relate to

Was it Browning, or another poet, who said:
"Grow old with me...the last of life...for which the first was made."

Good thoughts here, well-expressed.

Whoa! The poem began so lovingly and with such depth as it spoke of the love of waning years. Then it shifted gears on me and suddenly decided that the love I had just read about was still up in the air. Would he want that kind of love or not? It sorta confused me I'll admit but as I read on it began making more sense and toward the end of the verses the depth returned once again and the ending was tantamount to the beginning. All in all, a very good poem.

"Hope is a ship of fools, Drowning in a sea of dreams, Waiting hopelessly for love to save them..." Truth put into a nutshell so well, Retta! And the last 5 lines, too, are so poignant. This is wafty and dreamy... but the compulsion to continue to "dream" even whilst agonising the hopelessness is the golden thread which runs through this silvery write. Thank you. Enjoyed much.
