Write Me A Poem…

He said;
Write me a poem,
Tell me the colors you see in your mind,
Describe the sky and the moon,
Tell me what the sun looks like at noon...

But I am lost,
For how do I describe color to a blind man,
How to tell him the sky is the color of truth,
When all he knows are lies,

How do I tell him that the sun burns with life,
When his heart is dead inside of him?
How do I tell him that the moon shines
With the color of love,
All aglow in silvery light,
When he is so blinded by the darkness of his life?

He said;
You talk like a poem,
I want you to write me a poem,
Telling me what you feel when you see me…

And I was at a loss for words,
For how can write about how love feels,
When I am feeling it alone,
And he knows not the meaning of the word?

How do I say that love should be about,
Truth and honesty,
That you know in your heart,
Though you are apart,
You are never alone…

He said;
Write me a poem about love…

I looked into his dark eyes,
And whispered softly;
Love?
Love?
I know not the word…

Pressing many buttons all at once for me here, Retta. This is so beautiful, laced with profound truth; and the heartache, longing but sense of misunderstanding/miscommunication is agonising: the knowledge that, at a deep level, if there is not the immediate emotional connection and traffic continuously channelling these feelings of a mutual love and understanding, then no amount of verbal usage will fix it. What really haunts me personally is the feeling I have reading this that it is the emotionally open one who always takes the blame upon themselves for the "failure" and inability to inarticulate; ironic, given that that person is probably the most fluent in such speech and thought. Emotionally honest and searingly potent. TY Kate xx

You are the poem indeed that is yet to be written.
Even the blind with agree that this one is excellently written.
You rightly pointed out that love is the poem, no other.

Wilth a firm belief that the blind are us - with eyes closed, I say to write that poem! Perhaps, we assume too easily, that they lack full emotional experiences and all that goes with them. Your words are deep and challenging to each of us. Thank you for this. - Bill

Who is the blind one when we cannot explain that love is like the water he bathes in, and the water he drinks when he is full of thirst, it is something that keeps him warm on a cold day but never leaves him or goes astray. It fills him with joy and laughter when it brushes his hair, and cools like a breeze on a hot day. Splendid write, Retta
