Storm In My Heart

This is a strange day,
The wind is blowing,
The trees waving frantically,
Trying to warn me that,
A storm is brewing,
Coming our way…

Dark clouds rolling in,
Electricity in the air,
I could always feel it;
Hiding beneath my skin-

Right there…

My hands are so cold,
My arms tingling,
Hair rising on my arms…

The storm’s here-
Lightning cracks across the sky,
And the thunder echo’s in my chest,
I know I should go in,
But I am fighting the storm within…

The sky cracks open,
And spills down rain,
That can’t wash the stain,
Of my tears away,

Why can’t you let me be free again?
Those long lovely summer days,
I spent in my forest,
Seem like a dream,

I want to go there again,
Be free!
Not think of anything,
Let the wild sage brush against my skin,
Watch life flow in gentle blue skies…

Release me!
I need to be free!
You can’t hold me here,
A slave to your needs!

I run and run in muddied fields,
But you follow my trail,
Don’t you understand?
I don’t want to love you!
You cloud my mind with words,
I don’t want to hear!

This storm building within,
Will destroy me,
Unless you set me free!

Selfishness, the "I", is death to love. The wind must blow between two people. Beauty of a write!

"My hands are so cold,
My arms tingling,
Hair rising on my arms… "

This describes my reaction every time I encounter a spider in my house. But aside from my insectile phobias Sis, this poem describes in my mind how people wait for change to happen, instead of changing in the midst of their emotional storms. Felt this way through my husband's recovery from his cancer surgery recently. Friends who cared about my welfare as a caretaker actually MADE me take a break, attend a poetry reading, invited me to dinner.

I can truly say that it calmed my storm; gave me a better focus on how to track them in the future, and what to do to prevent myself from becoming an emotional casualty.

Thank you for writing this,
blessin's

Within us all there dwells the primevil spirit of our ancestry, Longing to be freed from the turmoil of the present, struggling to return to the warmth of the Forest from which we came.

A well written piece that calls to my inner self.

Thank you for sharing this.

Enjoyed the poem, but I have to say, asking to be set free doesn't have the same impact as demanding it.

Many emotions; I like the metaphor of "the storm within" that the story projects. Your poem captures exquisitely our natural instincts for survival and the distrust we have in other humans. A return to nature is a safe haven for many of us in heart, soul, and mind. Nice write.

Very gripping and intense.
I believe in finding the right person, feeling somehow completed by the union-most connected, yet most free.
People seldon pay enough attention to freedom, yet it is as important as anything for wholeness.
Best wishes,
John

This poem runs to the edge and back again. The pain and emptiness of a broken heart or perhaps an abused heart is a pain that traps one in their own prison stronger then any bars could.
