He said,
” Wait...The time is not right,
I have too much to do,
Can’t be with you...”
Ah,
But the birds are singing,
And the sky is calling,
Rain is falling gently on my face,
Cooling the fever in my brow,
And I need to move on...
He said;
” Wait...Just a few years more,
I am not ready to be with you…”
Ah,
But the sky is blue,
And here come the clouds,
I must follow them,
Can’t stay home and wait for you...
He said,
” Wait, “Wait for me,
There will be time for us,
When we are old,
I will come for you then...”
Ah,
But I have done much while you were gone;
I have sat and watched the moon rise,
Heard the eagle hunting at noon,
Ran on the forest paths with my wolf,
I’ve made friends with people,
Who have time to hear,
The stories I would tell,
And heard their own,
While I wiped away the tears…
He said,
” Wait!
I’m coming now,
Even as you speak…”
Ah,
But I am not there anymore,
I have traveled these dusty roads,
And found my way home-
And…
I just read your latest poem and then read this. It seems that I read them in the right order. I would love to say something meaningful in response to this impactful poem but I feel as though I were looking into the mirror smooth surface of a reflective lake and that by saying anything I'd be dipping my finger and and disturbing the images. You did it all.

Powerful Hard hitting poem. Excellent, Perfection, Awakening, Exquisite!

It happens!
I have a sister doing the exact thing. Only she continues to wait, for an empty promise to become reality. I hate watching her hurt, but I can only pray that some day she too will wake up and understand it was only a dream.
Excellent writing Retta!
mmmmmm...lovin' this, and it is such a testament to the urgency of the NOW, to where life is truly lived, in the moment. all the plans, social security, dreams for the future and plans against possibility are truly just egoistic constructions plied against the tides of time, aren't they, and i think you got that across so very well, madamoiselle. a wonderful work, i'd almost forgotten how much i love your poetry. from a fan!

I agree with Robert and Lynn both...
Your a wonderful writer Retta......
An exceptional write that moves beyond those priorities influenced by--or even established by polarized gender cultures--and elevates the dialogue to one between sacred feminine consciousness and earthbound masculine mindset. The bounty of a heart-informed open soul moving through the world with expanded spiritual vision wins out over the self-imposed restrictions of the lower self. The levels on which WAIT can be read are in fact multiple and that is a major admirable aspect of its mesmerizing beauty.
This is so good, Reindeer!. Truly, we can't wait forever for love to knock upon our door, we must go out, find it then welcome it into our soul. Excellent flow and content.
Take care,
Sherry
You certainly know how to deliver these fable-type narratives that penetrate to the core and paint a picture of stark reality, making observations and dynamics about personal relationships that are so clear to see and understand. You are gifted at this, Retta. So graciously and beautifully done, too. Gentle but strong. Not easy to do - but you make it seem so! This is bittersweet and I am left ambivalent - whether to be saddened or relieved. There is certainly power in this write; leaves me with disturbance, which is the sign of great poetry. Which this is... thank you. Kate xx
Good for you! Too bad for him! Well done, Reindeer. I enjoyed!

Blimey, this is a keeper for sure.
One siezes the moment, the other procrastinates till it's to late.
Excellence. the tranquillity that cascades this poem..
In a post-coup America, an Illinois farm boy is drawn into the resistance by his brother's death. Captured, he is given a choice: betray his friends, or the girl he loves will be lobotomized.
