Today the air is a bit damper
And the sounds welling up are so crisp
While the breeze by and by
Sweeps in from on high
And fades like a will-o’-the wisp.
Oh these are the new days of autumn
And from the east to the receding west
There is no denying
As her leaves start to flying
Mother Nature’s now at her best.
Let’s raise a glass to the last days of summer
And say farewell to the heat and the dust
With each swirl in the cup
May our spirits rise up
And replenish our zeal and our trust.
The colors proclaim the new season
The yellows and golds shout their cheer
While the birds on the wing
Have one last song to sing
As they group and then disappear.
In the silence of night in the heavens
Where the moon shines in repose above
May we pause and rejoice
With one unified voice
For this season that everyone loves.
What a wonderful ode to the season I love the most, next to spring. You must be reminiscing like me unless you somehow leave Florida during these fall months because, while the leaves may fall and turn brown there is nothing spectacular about a fall in hot humid climates like yours and mine.
