Born into a cold and empty universe
Without meaning without care
We each must find our way
And so we probe and tug and question
Every person place or thing.
We know not for what we search
Rejecting absurdities
Questioning each other while
Intermittently laughing and crying
At our foolishness.
Stopping only to refill or rearrange
Our probing data banks
Repairing our tentacles of discernment.
With each step confusion reigns
Dissension permeates
Wars breakout
They grip us with their claws
Strip us of our armor
Devour those they can.
Still we learn we adapt we discover
And out of this complex weighing
And fighting and balancing
We become less afraid of our environment
More hopeful of who we are
More caring of all we portend
More open to each other
More discerning of our friendships
Less demanding of others.
And eventually we may even find ourselves
In accord with some mystical quality
We cannot deny
Something that connects us all--
Dare we call it love?
Very optimistic and telling. We are the sum of thousands of generations yearning to be free. And, to a certain extent, as you so eloquently point out in your poem, most people in the world are free to love one another without ill feelings or contempt.
While we have "become less afraid of our environment," I notice from reality shows that our brave souls when placed back in "a cold and empty universe" of basic survival in a plentiful wild environment, tend to utterly fail. It makes us understand how interdependent we really are.
We know not for what we search. I loved that line. It's so true, and so we continue to search, and in the end, it is love we want. To love and to be loved.
It usually works out, for me, that if I call it love, which it usually actually is, it ends in miserable failure so I keep to myself & never get to feel that which I was going towards...-e-
